HCC to Host Pro-Logger Certification Base Course

The North Carolina Forestry Association will host the Pro-Logger Base Certification Course in the auditorium of Haywood Community College March 14-16, 2007. The course will cover safety, the environment, and better-business practices and will include a half-day field tour of logging practices in western North Carolina. The North Carolina Forestry Association’s (NCFA) ProLogger Program has been North Carolina's logging industry standard certification since 1994. It is designed to improve the professionalism of timber harvesters through education and training in safety, business management, forest management and environmental issues. Participants who complete the required 24 credit hours of training through local community colleges receive certification as a professional logger or ProLogger which is recognized by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and many mills throughout the state. Participants are also required to receive additional continuing-education training to maintain ProLogger status.
