Aquatic Ecology on the Pigeon River

Fish and Wildlife Management Instructor, Chris Graves, recently got wet with his students on a lab visit to the east fork of the Pigeon River as part of his summer class in Aquatic Ecology. While this stretch of the river was shallow (and cold!) students snorkeled for aquatic insects and fish, did some kicknet sampling, and even managed to catch a few frogs--for the frying pan, perhaps? Students enrolled in the Fish and Wildlife Management Technology at Haywood get plenty of hands-on experience in the field. This Thursday, Chris's class left for the Savannah River for an intensive weekend of bottomland ecology, waterfowl tagging, and other 'low-country' wildlife management fun! For more information about the Fish and Wildlife Management program at Haywood, give Chris a call at 828.627.4565.
