Horticulture Club Service Projects

Members of the horticulture club recently participated in two community service projects. The first took place at Central Elementary school in Waynesville. This project involved the removal of two perennial beds located at the school’s front entrance. Many of these plants were salvaged and will be overwintered at the HCC campus nursery.

Next spring they will be used to create additional flower beds as part of another project for the school.

Project number two took place at the Headstart facility near campus. An empty flower bed located in front of the parking lot was converted into a shrub bed. Many of the shrubs used were grown by students in our nursery operations class.
Perennials will be added to the design next spring to add color and variety.

In the next few weeks our students will also be involved in the fall poinsettia sale. More information on this event will be posted soon, so stay tuned...
