Greetings from Great Smoky Mountains National Park!

Join us for our National Park CAREER DAY on Saturday, April 27th from 9:30am-2:00pm at Park Headquarters (behind Sugarlands Visitor Center). Please find information for all interested participants below....

There will be another event going on simultaneously with Career Day at Sugarlands Visitor Center!  The park will be celebrating National Junior Ranger Day from 10am-2pm.  This event is geared towards ages 5-12 (and families) and will include hands-on activities and exploration walks.  Kids can join a Ranger to find out about Mammal Mania, along with creating their own Cherokee pottery, buzz button toy, and Junior Ranger patch.  Bring your whole family & enjoy both the Career Day and Junior Ranger Day events!!

Event:  Students will be learning and interacting with various Park Rangers throughout the day.  Each Park Ranger will describe their job, along with giving career guidance and insights.  Some Park Ranger’s will have hands-on demonstrations and/or activities for all interested participants.

Who: All middle school, high school, and college students (and their families) are welcome! High School and college students are invited to participate individually or with their families. Middle school students are invited but parent participation is required.

When: Be prepared to participate in our activities from 9:30am-2:00pm with a 30-minute lunch break during the activities.  (Please bring a bag lunch and water.)   Although we would love for you to join us for the entire day, please come join us for as much time as you have free!  Sugarlands Visitor Center staff will be able to direct you to our location!

Where: Meet on the front porch of the Headquarters building at 9:30am.  (Headquarters is the building behind Sugarlands Visitor Center that looks like a big stone house with a front porch.  Both Headquarters & Sugarlands Visitor Center are 2 miles from Gatlinburg, TN on Hwy 441 inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.)  Activities will take place behind our Headquarters building, however, we will occasionally walk to other nearby locations.

What to Bring & Wear: Wear long pants and sturdy hiking shoes. Because of variable mountain weather, bring extra layers and rain gear. Bring a bag lunch and water.  Garbage cans are available on-site.  You may also want to bring a notebook and a pen to take notes.

Special Notes:
All middle school & high school students (and their families) are welcome!  HS students are invited to participate individually or with their families.  MS students MUST have a parent/guardian accompany them in order to participate in this special day. You do NOT need to RSVP for this event.

This event will go on rain or shine!  Although we plan to be outside for most of the day, in case of rain, we have an indoor facility as a back-up plan.

Thanks again for your interest in getting involved with Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  We are looking forward to working with you this Saturday! As an FYI, our next Student Volunteer Day will be May 18th.  Dates for our summer Student Volunteer Days will be announced soon!
